SPA has contributed to important decisions concerning major elements of the current U.S. national security establishment. The following are examples:

and capabilities of Trident submarines, weapon systems, and missiles.
- The Department of Homeland Security's strategies and risk approach to readiness and preparedness to prevent, mitigate, and respond to terrorist threats to the nation's critical infrastructure and key resources.
- The Missile Defense Agency and the Navy's Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (ABMD) program.
- The force structure and characteristics for the Navy's
Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA).
